--- Comment #17 from rjs485@RSMDPC.comcastbiz.net ---
I have just recently installed Mandriva Linux 2009 on a computer, which results
in automatic installation of OpenOffice.org 3.0. The program worked for
awhile, and then one day I tried to start it and got the splash screen,
followed by a window that says "OpenOffice.Org 3.0 - Fatal Error The
application cannot be started. The user interface language cannot be
determined. This happens regardless of which component of OpenOffice I try to
open. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall a number of times but that does
not help. I have also attempted installation of OpenOffice 3.4, but I get
messages indicating that I would need to install glibc_2.11. Just a little
reading on that subject leads me to believe that a major reconfiguration of the
system would be necessary to do that.

Comments on this thread do not seem to address this issue directly. Do I need
to find all the directories installed by OpenOffice and delete them before
reinstalling? Where do I find these directories?

I would appreciate any help.
