distributing javac.jar

howdy

does anyone know whether it would be permissible to distribute javac.jar
(from Tomcat) with a JSP based application so that customers don't have
to download and install a JDK (given that the JRE can be redistributed)?

TIA

Jikes might be a good aternative, but you'll have to maintain a specific
package for each target platform.

The IBM Public License says that it grants you "a non-exclusive, worldwide,
royalty-free copyright license to reproduce, prepare derivative works of,
publicly display, publicly perform, distribute and sublicense the
Contribution of such Contributor, if any, and such derivative works, in
source code and object code form."

I believe it can only be distributed *with* Tomcat (which is ok since you
are probably going to need to distribute Tomcat anyway).

The JRE doesn't include the javac.jar and thus has different distribution
policies.

Yes, this is stupid Sun'isms.
