build failed: java returned 1
Hi,
I just upgraded to the new cvs-version of forrest.
I re-builded my dist and tried to generate a static html site by typing
"forrest site" in my project dir.
After a while I got an
BUILD FAILED
/home/stephan/xml-forrest/build/dist/shbat/forrest.build.xml:606: Java
returned: 1
error.
I looked at this file and increased the
forrest.maxmemory definition from 64m to 256m.
I also edit the forrest.properties and increased the forrest.mamemory I found
there from 128m to 256m.
But the result is still the same: a "forrest -debug site" dies with a
BUILD FAILED

Does anybody know what's going wrong here ?
I use the j2sdk1.4.2 on a Suse Linux 8.2 Professional.
BTW: Please don't be afraid if this question is kind of a faq; I wasn't able
to participate on this mailing list for the last weeks.

I just tried two other possibilities that came into my mind:
I testet another JDK (j2sdk1.4.1_03) -> no effect.
I removed the build-directory from xml-forrest and rebuilded forrest
-> no effect.
The problem still remains ...
Maybe another information may help:
Fortunately I have an older version of forrest (cvs: 3. Jun 2003) which
doesn't cause any problem at all

No, just the line mentioned above. If you can tell me how to get more
information I surely can give.
BTW, I remember that in the "forrest.properties"-file you can set
project.debuglevel=DEBUG
I already tried this but without any effect.

Hm, the problem occured before I edited forrest.build.xml, too.
Thank you for help ;-)

It looks a problem on the forrest.build.xml file , possibly after you
edited.

Yes, there are broken links.
And I forgot to mention in my last eMail: I also installed the CVS-version on
another computer, tested it there (forrest seed, forrest site)
and got this error message, too.
So if this isn't serious everything's okay for me.
Thank you very much for your help!
Stephan
BTW: Are the new features of the cvs-version (o.5-devel) documented somewhere
? I mean features like collapsable menues in krysalis skin, generate one pdf
of the whole site and something like this ?

Oh okay, so the site does render, but Java returns a non-zero exit code?
As the site renders, are there any broken links? For example, CVS
Forrest's own site also returns 'build failed' due to some broken links.
This isn't serious, just an annoyance until we figure out how to exclude
URLs from being crawled by the the command-line.

Ok, no effect (means, the error is still the same).

Yes, I did but without any effect.

Hm, just in sitemap.log (file attached).

Yes, as far as I can see, anything works (excuse my ignorance but I don't know
where to find the logfile).
Better: despite of the error message the complete site is built (as far as I
can see)!
Today I also tested some JDKs (Suns 1.4.2 and Blackdowns 1.4.1) but the error
message still occurs.
TIA,
Stephan

Try removing the sitemap completely.
Also, you could try deleting Forrest's build/ directory and running
build.bat again. I suspect that sometimes old content gets left there
when Forrest is rebuilt. Also be sure to delete your project's build/
directory.

Nothing of interest there except routine FOP errors. Anything in the
other logs files in that directory?

Do you mean, everything works? If not, what is the error? Is there
anything in your webserver log?

I replaced [project.content-dir]src/documentation/conf/sitemap.xmap with
[xml-forrest.dir]/src/resources/conf/sitemap.xmap but without any effect

No problem, I attached the log-file.

Have you overridden the sitemap (do you have a
src/documentation/sitemap.xmap)? If so, it probably needs synching with
Forrest's.
Can you have a look in build/tmp/context/WEB-INF/logs/error.log and see
if there's anything interesting? That is where all Cocoon logs go.
Also, you could try running the site interactively ('forrest run'), and
seeing on http://localhost:8888 if it's a specific file that's breaking.
