[jira] [Commented] (SPARK-37630) Security issue from Log4j 0day exploit

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SPARK-37630?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=17458652#comment-17458652 ]

Sean R. Owen commented on SPARK-37630:
--------------------------------------

First: updating to log4j 2 would be nice, but is already covered in other JIRAs. The problem is Spark dependencies that need log4j 1.x. That is separate.

This appears to be about the 0-day exploit, but, as far as I'm aware, nobody has argued that it affects Spark. How does it?
The CVE pertains to log4j 2 primarily. There was a thread suggesting that log4j 1.x + JNDI or SMS handlers could be vulnerable, but Spark does not use those technologies.

Of course, that's a statement about Spark, not about user applications on Spark.

Unless someone has a specific angle showing how this affects Spark, I'd consider this a duplicate of generally "it'd be nice to update to log4j 2(.15)"
