Cannot inherit from final class

Attempting to migrate from RC1 to RC3 (well, CVS head as of mid 4/15/2003).
Got the OJB source to compile and our code to recompile with the new OJB
classes. Did not change anything else like our OJB.properties,
repository.xml, etc. 

The first time we do during application run:

PersistenceBroker broker =
PersistenceBrokerFactory.defaultPersistenceBroker();

We now get the following error:
java.lang.VerifyError: Cannot inherit from final class 

Of course all works fine under RC1 (which in itself was a major upgrade from
prev versions). Config: Struts 1.1-b3, Tomcat 4.1.18  or JRun 4 (happens on
both containers), MS SQL Server, JDK 1.3.x

On another note, any time estimate for having a Gold version of OJB (e.g.
v1.0)?

When it's done ;-)
Hope in near future. Sorry, but it's
very difficult to declare a time frame
(my aspiration is 3-6 weeks)
