[jira] [Created] (SOLR-2963) Improving the performance of group.ngroups=true when there are a lot of unique groups

Improving the performance of group.ngroups=true when there are a lot of unique groups
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                 Key: SOLR-2963
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-2963
             Project: Solr
          Issue Type: Improvement
          Components: SearchComponents - other
    Affects Versions: 3.5
         Environment: Linux (Debian 6) 64bit, Java 6, 21GB RAM (Xmx), Solr 3.5
            Reporter: Michael Jakl

The performance of computing the total number of groups (by setting group.ngroups=true) degrades badly when there are many unique groups.
It would be very useful to have an adequate number of groups to provide good means for paging through the results etc.
