[users@httpd] Options that Apache was compiled with
Hi,
I am wondering how to tell what options an install of Apache was
compiled with, if there is a log or a command to know.
I am running Apache 1.3.27 on Redhat 7.3.
I might need to re-install apache compiling in some newer software,
and would like it to contain the same options that it had before. I
know that phpingo() shows the options that php was compiled with
(like --with-openssl), and this is what I am looking for, only I want
to know the options that Apache was compiled with.
Thank you for your time.

There is a mod_info available with apache, but it would be a little
difficult to use for what you want, and it probably isn't in your server
anyway, which leaves you with the same problem. Another reply to this
thread gave you some better ideas.

i'm not that familiar with rpm. maybe try using an rpm command to get the
maintainer contact info for that package or contact the person who installed it
and find out where the rpm came from. man rpm sounds like a good start.

I did a locate on config.log and config.nice and did not turn up any
results on apache. This may have been built via an RPM. If that was
the case, where would I look?

Re: [users@httpd] Options that Apache was compiled with

Thank you, this is very helpful. I will do a locate on config.nice
or
config.log and see if it's there. 1.3.27 was the version my hosting
account came with, and since it's a hosting account I did not compile
it myself, this is how it came. I have a root account so I can
upgrade if I like.
I'll also search for how to back up apache. After upgrading php4 I
have learned to back up libphp4.so, as I have overwritten my old one
and my new one will not load with apache, I get an error that says:
httpd: Cannot load /usr/lib/apache/libphp4.so into server:
/usr/lib/apache/libphp4.so: undefined symbol:
OPENSSL_add_all_algorithms_noconf
I am not sure if:
1) Apache was not compiled with the same version that I compiled PHP
with (I upgraded openssl to 0.97d)
2) When compiling PHP, it is pointing to the old header files that
are still there from before I downloaded newer openssl
3) There is something else causing the problem.

I don't know of a command like phpinfo() but here's some other thoughts ...
did you install it via package or did you compile it yourself?
if you compiled it yourself and you kept the directory your compiled it in, you
can check the src/ directory for a file called config.nice or config.log
that usually has your ./configure options. if things haven't changed much on
the system you can append your new option to the ./configure line and proceed
with build/install like before.
if you installed a package you can probably check with the maintainer of the
package how it was compiled.
either way, you should probably backup your old version.
