Openwire in c/c++

What are suggestions for using openwire protocol whith c/c++?
How mature is the implementation?
What versions of AMQ broker implementation is supported?

We'd like to migrate from stomp protocol due to some stomp
limitations/shortcommings:
1. No pinging is specified and implemented. On lost connection, connections
are hanging for very long time.
2. Broker openwire implementation is much more mature and more tested,
especially when some kind of fault occures.
3. Not all JMS features are available in stomp client.
