> If a heap region is configured with a Compressor then each time compress and decompress is called a copy of the byte array passed to it is made. This extra copy is made if the value stored in the region is itself a byte array or if it has already been serialized.

We could instead encode this boolean in a bit in the AbstractRegionEntry. This is what off-heap regions do and they do not make this extra copy.
