Comparing different types - TO_CHAR

I would like to make a where clause comparing two properties from different
entities, but those properties for some unexplainable reason were created
with different types. Is there a jpa function to convert the type of a
property in jpql statement? Like:  "... where a.prop_alf =
toChar(b.prop_num)"
