Payloads and Canopy

What's the payloads stuff for in Canopy?  Specifically, I'm looking at  
the writePointsToFileWithPayload() stuff.

+1 payloads can be subsumed by name and label bindings

And, also, do we need them anymore in light of MAHOUT-65?  I know that  
doesn't enable arbitrary payloads, but it seems close enough.
