[jira] [Created] (INFRA-7155) Unable to setup SSL-enabled, SMTP-AUTH based mail submission

James Taylor created INFRA-7155:
-----------------------------------

Summary: Unable to setup SSL-enabled, SMTP-AUTH based mail submission
                 Key: INFRA-7155
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-7155
             Project: Infrastructure
          Issue Type: Bug
Environment: Gmail on Mac OS x 10.8
            Reporter: James Taylor

I'm following the directions here: http://www.apache.org/dev/user-email.html#via-smtp-based-mail-submission-service-recommended to setup my Gmail account to send mail through people.apache.org. I have the Gmail form filled out (using the defaults) like this:
SMTP Server: people.apache.org Port: 465
Username: jamestaylor
Password: <my Apache password, same one I use to login to JIRA>
x Secured connection using SSL

I continually get the following error message:
Your other email provider is responding too slowly. Please try again later, or contact the administrator of your other domain for further information.

Is there anything that needs to be setup on the Apache end for me to take advantage of this nifty feature?

Thanks in advance for any help.
