[WWW] AOOo french website
Hi,
Vincent Ruffiot who is one of the mailing list mod for ooo-users-fr,
would like to participate to the french website management.
Secondly, I translated the official announce, and we would like to
understand how to integrate it ?
The link is: http://www.openoffice.org/fr/
My questions are :
- how to manage this page without being a commiter (mostly for
Vincent) ?
- who did all the changes we currently see ?
Last but not least, don't forget to put Vincent and me on CC if you
answer privately.
Thanks,
Eric Bachard

+1 we should really focus on simply translated pages and nothing else. That will make many things easier and it looks more consistent.

Bonjour Rob,
First, sorry but I'm not a native english speaker.
Maybe my words are not right

I know but only in english.

Well, why not? How I can proceed?

In last june, I had pointed out that the OOo planet had disappeared.
Planet.apache seems to be too much general and none french posts.

>view, not an individual view.
My goal is only inform french users. Show that our community is alive.
By example, I translate your post about download stats.
Hope you understand that I don't want make bad thing.

Do we really want our user-facing pages to be featuring personal blogs at all?
1) We have an official project blog; http://blogs.apache.org/OOo/
2) We would welcome NL community posts on the official blog
3) There is also an Apache committers "planet" where any Apache
Committer can add their personal blog:
http://planet.apache.org/committers/
4) It is possible that we could create and maintain an AOO planet as
well, where more personal blogs could be used
But in general, I think the NL pages should express a Project/PMC
view, not an individual view.

Only committers can change the website directly.
He can submit patches from either a checked out svn copy, or through the Apache CMS by logging in as anonymous.

To be honest, the fr site was controled by the same who are today at
TDF. Controled is a gentle word. The same people did a lot of

Now that the first Apache OpenOffice release is done, it's time to do

The idea is to share the decisions, e.g. adding other volunteers, and
adding some consensus in the choices. Currently the choices are
suboptimal.
Vincent Ruffiot, I proposed yesterday, is not a committer, but is
serious and reliable. I'll search what has to be done to grant him
enough rights to help us maintaining the site.

The visibility is essential, and you perfectly know that.
What I'd lilke to say is that's just a shame, with all the code I
contributed to OpenOffice.org and Apache OpenOffice, to never see
OOo4Kids and OOoLight mentionned in the forums.
Even worse : derivatives like NeoOffice and now LibreOffice who do
not (and will probably never) contribute back to OpenOffice.org nor
Apache OpenOffice are systematicaly visible.
My english is limited, but "hypocrite" and "mishonest" are the first
words coming to my mind, and I don't fear to say it.

Hmm.. based on the download stats, I don't think LibO is all that
relevant in the big picture. Most of the users are in Windows,
not in Linux, and Linux users are requesting OpenOffice.
Without being irrespectful to LibO, I think we should focus
Apache resources on the one true OpenOffice, and just
dropping a name isn't closing the door for their future
participation in the community.

The general view among the active volunteers on the Forum (and, indeed, off Forum in private communications) was that it was appropriate for the Forum to specify the two major versions at this time and use inclusive language for the lesser and older versions. We are aware that a serious shift in code base may require Forum specialisation, but that day has not yet come; until then, we serve to best of our ability all strains of OpenOffice. We made our decision in 10 hours; there has been no objection.
On this list we should continue to support AOO, showing generosity to others who support different forks. If we close up and ignore them, then we are behaving in the same manner for which we criticise them. Either this is a truely openSource project or it is not.
There is nothing one does but someone else can object to it.

For me, the point is NOT to make the best number of hits, but to
respect free software ethical, and reward the people doing the right
thing.

This was my first proposal but we can't obliterate the fact that LibO has already a strong user base too.
Moreover, since many GNU/Linux distros have switched to LibO, many users don't know about AOO. It can be a way to make them aware about that.
As long as the codes give a common ground for users, we can benefit from both sides (users point of view).

We can't indeed mention all the derivatives.

We created ooo-users-fr for Apache OpenOffice, in french. this is the
right place to discuss the site.

I wont : since OOo4Kids and OOoLight are banned fro the forum, I see
no reason to believe this place is neutral at all :-)

Well, join the ooo-users-fr list, and explain what happens.

Such link should not be on first line. The first page, is not the place.
To avoid "one" people decide for all, the changes on the fr page
should be discussed before.
Where did you propose to modify those links ?

See by yourself : http://www.lamouette.org/
Second, La Mouette is not neutral at all, and so far does not reverse
the money of the sales to the Apache Foundation.
Now, back to the question : who did these changes ?
Thanks,
Eric

Why not? This is my blog and I'm independant.

Where are you read this "propaganda"?
Re: [WWW] AOOo french website

I would like to add : some links are not very good and have to be
removed.
In particular :
- the blog who is not really "independant" : http://oooforum.free.fr/
- this one making money and doing propaganda for TDF and LO => http://
enventelibre.org/la-mouette
This is IMHO urgent to fix that :-/
