Netbeans 12.2. Wacked. SOLVED !!

Just to share what I finally got to work and why

Netbeans 12.2 when I opened any dialog window the application would just freeze and flicker …
Could not figure out the what or why when any secondary window was opened the the application went into frozen mode.

And just to share my approach to figuring out who or what was the cause the following are the steps that tried

Safe boot. This would eliminate any add on utilities that I had added (this is good for Windows also)

Create a new account This would present a clean user profile to try and test with. With my test account Netbeans worked fine

Did a bunch of Google time. Did not find any smoking guns

Check the system log .. this only showed when netbeans stalled. Did no help

Check the system activity again this only showed when the application had stalled and was not able to add any information

Did more Google and duck duck. Still no real answer but found out other issues that may be run into

Walked away. At this point I was ready to go back to Swift and C and fortran :-<

Started working with the different issues that I had found during the Google and Duck Duck search. Had saved everything that might have helped.

On attempt #XX there was a descrepting about the system tabs settings that interfered with a early version on NetBeans

On working with any and all system configuration files on the 4 item I found a system preferences for General settings and towards the bottom of that window was the option for Prefer tabs had been set to always so I changed that to Never.

And magic happened and all was good in my small world :-D

Why did that setting impact NetBeans. Well that is way over my skill level at this point in time

Hope this helps someone else

Oh and a Big Thank you to Paulo Toledo for the Java help that started all this

Oh and a small foot note. If anyone else is using Comcast to try to send e-mail to a different country they set foreign email address to :INVALID.
I spent two full days with their “tech” support working my way up 5 levels to get that adjusted. It worked for three days and now they are blocking again..

Enjoy

Jim Sterling (still trying to learn)
