Screenshot of submit page
Since the lenya-box divs don't use the full width anymore, the layout of some
pages is a bit distorted (especially the arrangement of the buttons).

Thanks - I commited a reworked version of the patch.
I think the admin xhtml looks a bit organically grown here and there (inline styles spread here and there, leftovers from the table age) - I'll file an enhancement bug for 2.0.1

[PATCH] tabs.css
This patch fixes some of the collapsing problems.
It uses fixed widths for the
(left-)floating admin divs. And left margins for the divs at the right side.
The gui is changed a bit (bigger canvas of the (non-floating) boxes on the
right side) - the patch is meant for discussion.

I think the screen space can be optimized (see new patch)
Currently I'm having the following issue:
The lenya admin gui sports a table with (sometimes) a single cell. The width of the table (class="lenya-body") is set to 100%. Non floating divs consume the full available width.
In the tabbed admin section I'd like to get rid of the 100% width rule. But this affects the login/logout screens.
I'll submit a reworked patch that shows the effect. An ie 5 specific stylesheet is in the works.

Here at home submit step looks normal
- just a wild guess - is it possible that you did not roll back the changes when You tried out the patch?
In my commit the width for the table.lenya_body is left as it was (100%).
Can you reproduce the looks of attachment id 21163 with the default publication?

The question is if we should use the boxes on these pages at all. It would
probably look better without them.

Rendering problem in site area
In my setup (Firefox 2.0.0.9) the site area has some rendering problems (see
attached screenshot). I'll try to find out why.

Unfortunately, with fixed width the tabs eat up quite a lot of horizontal space,

Looks good on Firefox 2.0.0.9 (Mac), but the sitetree label font is quite small
(a bit too small for my taste).

Sorry, IE 6 specific stylesheet (but in quirks mode it's almost a ie 5)... - the ie5hacksonly is in the patch

Agree - I think it's a compromise between usability and screen space consumption. I'll put it to 11px.

Yeah that's an advantage of fully floating tabs - but I could not find a working solution for (3 in a row) floating divs without the collapsing effect at small screen sizes. There is room for improvement - I think the div width can be reduced (to maybe 160 or 180px for the left tabs menu).
Maybe there is a more elegant solution for 2.0.1 (but that might involve some structural changes in xhtml as well - currently it does not validate).
