[users@httpd] 1.3.31 breaks mod_dav?

 Hi,

 This problem might be related to the "Issues with 1.3.31" posting by
 Rob Boucher.

 Solaris 9 8/03 SPARC
 Apache 1.3.31
 mod_ssl-2.8.17-1.3.31
 openssl-0.9.7d
 mm-1.3.0
 mod_dav-1.0.3-1.3.6

 When I upgraded from 1.3.29, mod_dav stopped working flat out, and I get
 no error messages in apache's error log, or anything else useful in the
 access log.

 I have recompiled all above components from scratch, and just used the old
 httpd.conf file, it makes no difference.

 After entering username/password into davexplorer, nothing happens (nothing
 visible, anyway). When I then try to exit davexplorer, it hangs; I need to
 ^C or kill the process explicitly (or apachectl restart).

 I'll have to go back to 1.3.29 for the time being.

Haven't tried this yet with the FP patch but this might fix the mod_dav
problem as well. Line 1059 of src/main/http_request.c

 I traced the TCP dialogue with snoop, the Solaris equivalent of tcpdump,
 for both apache 1.3.29 and 1.3.31. It looks like apache is sending only
 a part of the requested URL and then hangs:

  1   0.00000 localhost -> webserver HTTP C port=52171
  2   0.00040 webserver -> localhost HTTP R port=52171
  3   0.00003 localhost -> webserver HTTP C port=52171
  4   0.06968 localhost -> webserver HTTP OPTIONS /conferences/casi/ HTTP/1.1
  5   0.00044 webserver -> localhost HTTP R port=52171
  6   0.00255 webserver -> localhost HTTP HTTP/1.1 200 OK
  7   0.01076 localhost -> webserver HTTP C port=52171
  8   0.19277 localhost -> webserver HTTP PROPFIND /conferences/casi/ HTTP/1.1
  9   0.00044 webserver -> localhost HTTP R port=52171
 10   0.00340 localhost -> webserver HTTP <?xml version="1.0"?>
 11   0.00528 webserver -> localhost HTTP HTTP/1.1 401 Authorization Required
 12   0.00006 webserver -> localhost HTTP (body)
 13   0.00012 webserver -> localhost HTTP over=new Image;searchover.src='/images/nav/search-on.gif';
 14   0.00003 webserver -> localhost HTTP ages/stats.gif" width="100" height="11" border="0" alt="Website Statistics and R
 15   0.00795 localhost -> webserver HTTP C port=52171
 16   0.01994 localhost -> webserver HTTP C port=52171
 17   0.01609 webserver -> localhost HTTP (body)
 18   0.01390 localhost -> webserver HTTP C port=52171
 19   0.03799 webserver -> localhost HTTP (body)
 20   0.00526 webserver -> localhost HTTP (body)
 21   0.00012 webserver -> localhost HTTP ="button6" alt="Facilities"></a></td>
 22   0.00011 webserver -> localhost HTTP (body)
 23   0.00006 webserver -> localhost HTTP " height="8" alt="Search" border="0" name="search"></a></td>
 24   0.00648 localhost -> webserver HTTP C port=52171
 25   0.00001 localhost -> webserver HTTP C port=52171
 26   0.09990 localhost -> webserver HTTP C port=52171

 This is where apache 1.3.31 stops. 1.3.29 goes on to send the rest:

 27   0.01384 webserver -> localhost HTTP (body)
 28   0.06531 webserver -> localhost HTTP (body)
 29   0.01085 localhost -> webserver HTTP C port=52171
 30   0.01328 webserver -> localhost HTTP (body)
 31   0.00008 webserver -> localhost HTTP            <p>&nbsp;</p>
 32   0.01661 localhost -> webserver HTTP C port=52171
 33   0.01691 webserver -> localhost HTTP (body)
 34   0.01464 webserver -> localhost HTTP (body)
...

Can you do a tcpdump and view the results in ethereal? I had to back out
  of a 1.3.31 upgrade from 1.3.29 because of Frontpage. What I noticed
is that imediately after sending a 401 error to the Frontpage client
(asking the client to authenticate) Apache would then send the default
virtual server's index page to the client. This then messes up the
Frontpage client because it is receiving data from the Apache server
that it didn't ask for.

I am curious to see if the same thing is happening with mod_dav.
