xerces, schema parsing, now what?

Newbie alert!

It seems that various 'things' are using XML Schema inside them.
WSDL for example.

WSDL is it's own thing, but I want to parse out the schema information
inside of it.

Xerces parses (& validates?) XML Schema apparently but then do
I still have to manually parse out the schema data that I have
in order to do something with it?

Are there any tools that help with all this?

(If there's a better list to ask about this sort of thing, please
feel free to direct me.)

Basically, I want to parse WSDL to know how to talk SOAP for
some particular SOAP service. I imagine there will be other things
besides WSDL for talking SOAP on other transports...

But all end up reducing, at some point, to dealing with the schema
stuff. Since I'm working on a general tool I need to parse
the schema stuff (apparently). Ugh. <grin>
