Losing syslog and ssh on a lightly loaded box
is very suspicious.  I have run rk_hunter and
nmapped the box, and found nothing unusual,
but will continue to keep a close eye on it.

In the meantime I have installed pam_opie
on it, and suggest that anyone with an administrative
account on the machine (which so far is everyone),
set up an opiepasswd.  This eliminates the possibility
of someone sniffing your password, because it never
gets sent over the network.
