This sounds like a good idea to me. I just looked at the screenshot for now and took a glance to the patch wich seems good. When I will get a chance I will review the patch and then vote,, or even commit it if no one beats me before.

Is that a bug?
Is for that reason you prefer "expire old assignment before creating a new one"?
I'm asking this since the model at that point is many-to-many.

Hi All,
I've tested this patch and below my comments.
There is good and at least good.
The good news:
The PartyFixedAssetAssignment function well.
-It's possible to assign one or more fixed assets to one or more parties.
-The management of the constraints of availability is respected too.
The bad news:
The retention of the fixed assets in case of assignment (for internal use) should be managed in the suitable calendar.
What is not the case. :-(
The direct consequence is that the fixed assets remain available to the hiring, whereas they are not.
Just as they remain available for production processes, whereas they are not.
Solving these problems would make of this patch an unquestionable functionality in the fixed assets management part of the project.
For the moment, that's all I can say about it.

Hi,
This seems to be a good idea if we consider Fixed Asset Assignments as a way to manage "how and by whom" a Fixed Asset is used or should be used.
This make it possible to manage more efficiently fixed assets that are not for manufacturing purposes.
As mentioned by Jacques, some value added problems (from financial transactions based on fixed assets) exists but they can be managed thru Fixed Asset Products which stands there for this.

Hi,
Is it really bad Idea to expire the Asset assignment to the Party its assigned to and then Assign to new party. I am not Sure If a FixedAsset can be a assigned to more then one party at a time.
In my case If a FixedAsset Is assigned to more then One Party then its error situation.

Your comment is made after testing the patch ? Is the Report problem already existing in the current code (sorry I did not test) ?
I agree with Charles : many persons may be assigned the same fixed asset. Think about a delivery car for instance...

Yes you are right. A fixed asset can't be transfered without a financial transaction. BTW at this moment if an added value exists it must be accounted. This is basic accounting I guess. I did not look at the patch and was thinking it was only to relate a fixed asset to a party.

I use fixed Asset Assignments for tracking who is using it, I am not worried about the financial part of it. If we don't expire previous assignments then the Report on, Who uses what shows wrong data.
I'll like to expire old assignment before creating a new one, Is this OK?
