> Improve web-site
> ----------------
>
> Key: UIMA-1282
> URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/UIMA-1282
> Project: UIMA
> Issue Type: Improvement
> Components: Website
> Reporter: Marshall Schor
> Assignee: Marshall Schor
> Priority: Minor
>
> Improve the web-site, keeping the anakia build process. Change the build.xml to *not* copy files from xdoc to doc; this serves no purpose other than to take up room in SVN. Files which only need "copying" are now put directly only in docs/. Add a base.css style sheet, and make use of it, moving much of the styling info from the site.vsl macros used by anakia/velocity to the css.
> Change the look/feel to one suggested by a professional web designer. Although it uses some color schemes (derived from the UIMA logo), have alternative cues where possible for color blind people.
> Reorganize the left-hand navigation bar a bit, keeping more frequently referenced links toward the top. Redo the top UIMA logo to be more compact, and make it clickable - to go to home page (consistent with many other Apache websites). Decorate links that go off-site, and specify opening in new page.
> Generate the News page table of contents links from the news items themselves.
> Generate the download page entries from xml specs in the project.xml file.
> Add on the download page where appropriate information about platform. For instance, there are a couple of components (the CAS Editor, and UIMACPP) that have binaries generated for particular platforms.
> Redo main page - add a high level "picture" of everything on the site, divided up into frameworks, components, and
> Infrastructure, in recognition that the project has grown beyond just a framework. Add page for Annotators and a page for tools and servers (content mainly from Sandbox page),
> Add info on viewing mailing lists as forums and/or blogs. Add a site search capability at the top of each page, and put on the bottom a set of common links, including a new one to a "privacy policy" (as discussed on legal-discuss). Add a contact-us link (sends mail to uima-dev).
