Hi guys,

I have now tried several installation procedures of oodt including
virtual box and vagrant oodt. The computing center guys did the same.
All things we tried so far failed with some error messages and I still
feel lost since I cannot even figure out if oodt is what I want or not.

Maybe I should try another way: could you point me to someone who uses
oodt in a similar way that I want to use it so that I can learn from
another user directly? I also feel in the wrong place writing to the
developer mailing list when I am actually a user.

Is there a place to go to or a meeting to attend where I can learn
directly from oodt users?

Best regards, Eva

Eva,

Let's try something different and even simpler. I think there is an issue we may temporarily be able to skate around.

Can you try the steps on this page with one minor augmentation:

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OODT/RADiX+Powered+By+OODT

Instead of piping the first command to bash we'll edit the file. Here's the first command:

prompt> curl -s http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/oodt/trunk/mvn/archetypes/radix/src/main/resources/bin/radix<http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/oodt/trunk/mvn/archetypes/radix/src/main/resources/bin/radix> | bash

So instead:

prompt> curl -s http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/oodt/trunk/mvn/archetypes/radix/src/main/resources/bin/radix<http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/oodt/trunk/mvn/archetypes/radix/src/main/resources/bin/radix> > radix

Edit radix file and change "-Doodt=0.8.1" to "-Doodt=0.7" and then save and pipe to bash:

prompt> pradix | bash

Then follow the rest of the directions.

HTH,
Paul

RE: contacts

Hi Eva,

Unfortunately, the directions on the website do not account for some of the show stopping bugs that I ran into with the 0.8 and 0.8.1 radix archetype. I have something here that lays everything I did to download, apply some needed patches, build and install and get up and running. It is written from a very newbie's point of view. So, the experienced folks may know easier ways to do some of the things that I did. But, this is what got me up and running. I do not recommend the 0.8.1 archetype because opsui is not working in that version. I had to go back to 0.8 to get a working opsui. This write-up assumes 0.8.

I hope this is helpful. I have been meaning to post something like this up on the website, but have not had time to polish it up as much as I would like.

Eva,

Let's try something different and even simpler. I think there is an issue we may temporarily be able to skate around.

Can you try the steps on this page with one minor augmentation:

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OODT/RADiX+Powered+By+OODT

Instead of piping the first command to bash we'll edit the file. Here's the first command:

prompt> curl -s http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/oodt/trunk/mvn/archetypes/radix/src/main/resources/bin/radix<http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/oodt/trunk/mvn/archetypes/radix/src/main/resources/bin/radix> | bash

So instead:

prompt> curl -s http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/oodt/trunk/mvn/archetypes/radix/src/main/resources/bin/radix<http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/oodt/trunk/mvn/archetypes/radix/src/main/resources/bin/radix> > radix

Edit radix file and change "-Doodt=0.8.1" to "-Doodt=0.7" and then save and pipe to bash:

prompt> pradix | bash

Then follow the rest of the directions.

HTH,
Paul

Hi guys,

I have now tried several installation procedures of oodt including virtual box and vagrant oodt. The computing center guys did the same. All things we tried so far failed with some error messages and I still feel lost since I cannot even figure out if oodt is what I want or not.

Maybe I should try another way: could you point me to someone who uses oodt in a similar way that I want to use it so that I can learn from another user directly? I also feel in the wrong place writing to the developer mailing list when I am actually a user.

Is there a place to go to or a meeting to attend where I can learn directly from oodt users?

Best regards, Eva
