Introduction from Justyna Horwat
Hi everyone,
I'm a software engineer currently working at Apple on the iTunes
Music Store. I've been doing Java development since around 1997 and
have a great deal of experience working on many Java web-tier projects.
My previous job at Sun Microsystems gave me the opportunity to work
on the reference implementations of various J2EE specifications. I
was mostly interested in web related technologies and focused on that
area.
It all started with my curiosity about how the Java Web Server
worked. This lead me to a position at Sun in the J2EE group working
on the JSP compiler and Servlet implementation. This project was open
sourced at Apache and is now known as Tomcat. I also got a chance to
work on the JSP Standard Taglibs implementation which is also
available at Apache.
My work in supporting Apache infrastructure as well as my committer
participation lead me to be elected as a member of the ASF a couple
of years ago.
I've really enjoyed my work at the ASF. Though my current job at
Apple has many benefits one of the downsides is that I no longer get
the same community support and networking opportunities that I had
when I worked actively on open standards.
I hope that this group will give me the opportunity to keep growing
my network as well as help me give back in whatever way possible.
Thanks,
Justyna

Hi Danese!
Actually I didn't mention that I was first in anything but now that
you mentioned it...yes I was the first female engineer elected to the
ASF for doing technical work. I'm also the first female engineer
doing development on the server-side of the iTunes Music Store :)

Justy isn't saying that she was the first woman to become a member of
Apache for technical work. Sally Khundairi was the first woman
officer, I believe (please correct me if I'm wrong on either point).
