Cocoon 2.1.8 AJAX is important
Hi:
AFAIK, Cocoon 2.1.8 will not have AJAX support for cforms. Is that correct?
I think the AJAX support present in 2.1.8 make sense: Being the first or
one of the first webapp frameworks delivering AJAX support is a great
plus for us.
IMHO, we can delay 1 or 2 weeks more the release just for this feature
long awaited feature.
WDYT?
Best Regards,
Antonio

What would reasonable would be to update htmlarea to xinha, but not
asking them to fix their well-written stuff because some other JS
library tweaks the standard classes.
Using Scriptaculous for a particular project is fine, but shipping it
with Cocoon if IMO definitely not something to do, as we cannot make any
assumption on what 3rd party JS libraries users will want to use in
their projects.
And interestingly, it looks like Tacos [1] (an Ajax extension to
Tapestry) went the same route, as they started with Scriptaculous and
recently announced their switch to Dojo.

Just a thought - HTMLArea is now under development again, as Xinha
(http://xinha.python-hosting.com/). We could see if they could adapt it
so that it would play nicely with the prototype library. Is that reasonable?

Oh no, it's not correct! AJAX in CForms is there! Have a look at all the
"(Ajax)" markers at

I guess your fears are related to my "Ajax libraries: let's wait a bit"
post [1] which was more about the new stuff we had put in the Ajax
block, which was based on the Scriptaculous libary.
Scriptaculous provides some really great features, but the way it is
written breaks some other libraries (e.g. htmlarea), and that's why I
decided to remove it from 2.1.8, so that people don't rush on these
features. I'm closely following what's happening on the Dojo toolkit
[2], and I like it much more, both from a technical and social POV.

So don't worry: Ajax is in CForms now.
