[users@httpd] Multiple copies of Apache on one Windows box...

Hi..

Back again!!... Started to take a look at how Apache works. On Windows, it
appears as though you have to install Apache before you can run the app. The
install process seems to create a service which has to be present in order
for Apache to run.

I had hoped that running multiple copies of Apache might be as easy as
copying the Apache folder structure to different folders and possibly
renaming the Apache exe file and running!!! I modifed the differnet
httpd.conf files but running the different Copies of Apache from the
different folders seems to run into problems....

If anyone has actually managed to consistently get multiple copies of Apache
running on the same box, I'd like to talk with you to see what you did....

I really don't want to climb/change the code to accomplish this!!

Thanks

Bruce

I haven't actually *done* this, however you might find this useful:

http://httpd.apache.org/docs/win_service.html

I believe the trick is to install each instance of Apache as its own service
with a unique service name. In fact, you may even be able to work with
simply ONE apache installation separate config files/directories for each
instance:
[from the page:] apache -i -n "service name" -f "\my server\conf\my.conf"

one of the virtual host segment of the httpd.conf
performs a sepcial service and we liked it to
operate under a different user for security reason
of course ........ it does not seem to be possible and we
also found a work-around (unrelated to apache/httpd) that
for now let us meet our need/requierment .....

You don't explain what you hope to accomplish.

In general it isn't possible. But look at the perchild MPM in Apache
2.0. (But also realize that it is VERY expirimental.)

Joshua.

[users@httpd] two user directives

Posted by Farid Hamjavar <ha...@unm.edu>.
apache 1.3.26 linux rh 7.2

hello,

we like to be able to use two user directives in one
httpd.conf and document below says (if I undrestood it
correctly), wrapping inside a suexec is the only way.

http://httpd.apache.org/docs/mod/core.html#user

Has any of you had expereince with incorporating two or
more users inside one httpd.conf?

Thanks,
Farid
