Web service always returning xsi:nil="true"

Hi,

I have just installed Tomcat 5.0.28 and axis 1.2.1 (using jdk1.4.2). I
followed the installation documentation and verified that axis is happy. I
deployed a few random axis samples and invoked them from XMLSpy - they work
nicely. Then I proceeded to test my own web service that has complex types
and libraries. Again, I followed documentation and successfully deployed web
service using generated deploy.wsdd. Web service wsdl is listed at:
http://localhost:8080/axis/servlet/AxisServlet

However, when invoking even simple operation from my web service I get
response along the lines:

Questions:

1) Any idea what am I doing wrong?
2) How can I get some debug statements sent to tomcat logs so I can start
looking for a solution myself?
