   While I believe that we need a good catalog API, I'm not sure the approach as outlined in the PR is the right one. 
   
   Before we fully design this, I think it would make sense to have a look at https://github.com/apache/hive/blob/master/service-rpc/if/TCLIService.thrift for example and get and idea what we can reuse or not.
