clearing a cell

Why is the delete function not working from me?

There is a formula calculation that will not clear and not allowing me to continue

Fw: clearing a cell

Posted by Lorna Richard <lo...@ymail.com>.
It is in calc

When entering data
in colume A it will not hold the formatting of how I would like
the date to be displayed.

I keep clearing the cell yet the formula
in any given cell still has a link to a previous cell
Say A06 is 1 Aug

when I go to enter a date in cell A115 it puts in the
date that has been entered in cell A06 so the date is always displaying as 1 Aug regardless of what cell the data is being in putted into.

=SUM(A08:A115)

That usually means that the formula is invalid and AOO is waiting for your
to repair it.
Could you show us the formula? Is this in CALC, WRITER or what?

Have you tried the "Delete" key? Backspace and Delete keys work
differently. Depending how it is set up Backspace just may not remove from
the cell what you wish it to.

Ctrl+Z is undo. Depending what editing has been done and when there will be
nothing for it to undo that is meaningful to correcting this problem.

I'm confused by this. "Auto correct" is not a format.

Please click ONCE on the cell, next right-click on the cell. On the menu
that appears after the right-click select "Clear Direct Formatting." That
should return the cell to the default formatting for any type of value
entered, date, number, text, etc. (If that's not the format you want let's
not worry about that right now. I think maybe one thing at a time. See if
we can get the information into the cell that you want then try to resolve
formatting.)

Did you download from http://www.openoffice.org/
If not I suggest you try downloading from there.Another source may not have
the exact "official" version.

Laptop is very convenient. Hopefully we can figure this out with little
enough effort that its worthwhile for you to stick it out through the
troubleshooting.

Hi
I tried the backspace and also tried clearing the cell of all content and
it does not retain the function. Also control z and nothing will clear the cell memory.

Also when setting the formate for how I want the date to apear the cell does not remember this either
and goes back to auto correct.

I have been using open office for years on the main computer without any problem.  I tried to find the original disc and could not find it. So I thought I would download it onto my new computer.

I wanted to use the laptop as it is portable and more comfortable space to work in.

I tried opening a new spread sheet and the same thing happens.

If I can not resolve the issue I will delete the downloaded version of open office off the laptop and just use the main computer to
do data imput.

Thanks,
Have a great day,
Lorna

Is the problem

1) only column A?

2) only this spreadsheet?

Regarding "the delete function" is that

1) the delete key?

2) the backspace key?

...some other technique. If some other technique, please describe.
