Trouble checking out from SCM (is it eclipse-maven?)

Hi all,

I want to contribute to an Apache project and am therefore trying to get
started with Maven.  I installed it, it works fine from the command line
to build the project.  I also installed eclipse-maven.  Now trying to
check out the Jakarta Commons Collections project from SCM gives the
following problem: it starts svn correctly, and checks everything out to
maven.<somenumber>, but then gives an error: cannot rename that directory.

Any ideas?

Also, it keeps on spitting out

User settings file does not exist /home/hendrik/.m2/settings.xml

which is true, but I wouldn’t know why I need it.
