Tomcat Sample Doesn't Build

I am try to build the Hello World sample that comes with Tomcat 3.1 but I am
not having any luck. I get these error messages...

Buildfile: build.xml
Project base dir set to: /Users/ralcasid/documents/sample
The items attribute is deprecated. Please use the includes attribute.
The items attribute is deprecated. Please use the includes attribute.
Executing Target: prepare
Copying 3 files to /Library/Tomcat/webapps/myapp
BUILD FATAL ERROR: srcdir does not exist!

I've looked over the Ant documentation and cannot find anything wrong with
build.xml. Prehaps some of you more experienced Ant users could give me
some help. I've included the build file with this message.

Thanks,
Ron

but be aware of my warning, that you will be getting into much more
trouble here. target doesn't support an init attribute any longer, you
need to add init to the depends list. The items attribute is not only
deprecated it has been removed completely and so on.

Stefan,

Thanks for replying. What's strange is there is a directory named "src" in
the same directory as the build file. Ant creates the deployment
directories and copies the appropriate files from the "web" and "etc"
directories, so it obviously knows where the base directory is. But for
some reason when it tries to run the compile target it gets lost. I will
try your suggestion and download a newer version of Ant.

Thanks,
Ron

This is a very old version of Ant, it doesn't even support ant
-version, right? In Ant 1.2 you'd be facing even more problems with
this build file (Tomcat 3.1 is very old and Ant has changed
considerably after that - I'm aware that 3.1 is the latest released
version of Tomcat though). What looks like the problem to me:

I guess, there is no directory named src in your environment.

Cheers
