ScriptInterpreterSource Registry not working

Used Apache 1.3.27 with ActivePerl 5.6 for a long time, upgraded to Apache 
1.3.29 and ActivePerl 5.8.3
Now, ScriptInterpreterSource Registry isn't working any more, have to tell 
location of interpreter in all scripts to have them work.
OS is W2K SP4, all patches applied, running Apache 1.3.29 with Perl as CGI
