Can we solr serve data to any reporting engine? like Crystal, Japser,
Birt etc
Hello Solr users,
I need some information about using solr for Report & analytics.
Most importantly, my is question whether solr can serve data to any
reporting engine? like Crystal, JapserReport, Birt, DynamicReports etc.
If yes how can we use? Any examples/articles/blogs? Could some one explain.
Our requirement is to use Solr to index our data from RDBMS and use it as
data for reports, dashboard analytics, and few search screens with facets.
Other option is to use star schema offline db to serve the data for same
instead of solr.
Please help.
Thanks in advance.
Pradeep

Um, the very first link when searching Google for "Solr Jasper reports" is
http://community.jaspersoft.com/questions/705431/it-possible-use-solr ,
and the answer links to
http://community.jaspersoft.com/wiki/building-custom-datasource-yahoo-finance-data
which seems to demonstrate a way to consume CSV from a URL data
source.
As Alexandre has pointed out, Solr can output CSV that can be consumed
by Jasper reports using pointers from the above link.

You have a catch-22 and lack of cross-cutting experts present on the
list (at least for now).
I think you need to drop down to the level of features.
For example, Solr can output flat CSV. Can Jasper consume CSV from a
custom URL? If so, you can get at least some data from one to another.
Can Jasper consumer arbitrary XML?
If not, what can it consume? Then, see if Solr can produce that either
directly or with some store/transform/forward method.
Hope it helps,
Alex.

You should probably be looking at this from the other
end. Pick a reporting engine, and check how to use
Solr as a data source for it. I would imagine that this
should be quite possible.
