I'm looking to work on IMPALA-6838 and I found this. I think if this could be done then the implementation of IMPALA-6838 will be very different (in an easier way), so I want to evaluate the amount of work required for this.

Do we have a design for this? The challenges here are:
 * The requests and responses of RPCs in CatalogService contain many HMS structs, which are in Thrift and are not going to change.
 * CatalogService RPC handlers are in the JAVA side.
