I think because JavaScript supports continuations and Java no, although the work is in progress (look at the Apple block).

Just one question from a woody novice: why using Javascript? I think that Java language is more practical and powerful. XMLForm used Java for the flow and this was a good solution I think.

The apple block doesn't aim at supporting continuations though. (see
also the pages about generalized flow on the wiki)
