[jira] Created: (AXIS-1284) Unable to access the WSDL for a hosted web service
Message:
A new issue has been created in JIRA.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
View the issue:
http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/AXIS-1284
Here is an overview of the issue:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Key: AXIS-1284
Summary: Unable to access the WSDL for a hosted web service
Type: Bug
Status: Unassigned
Priority: Blocker
Project: Axis
Components:
WSDL processing
Versions:
1.2 Beta
Assignee:
Reporter: akshay kumar
Created: Mon, 5 Apr 2004 4:57 PM
Updated: Mon, 5 Apr 2004 4:57 PM
Environment: Windows XP, AXIS 1.2beta, Tomcat 4.1
Description:
I have hosted a web service using Axis with Tomcat.
I had a WSDL and i used the WSDL2Java to generate the server side skeletons, compiled the classes and then hosted the service.
I can see the service hosted pretty well with all its exposed functions in the http://localhost:8080/axis/servlet/AxisServlet page.
I can even invoke the functions directly from the browser.(Example: http://localhost:8080/axis/services/<<Service Name>>?method=xxx)
However i cant access the WSDL by clicking on the WSDL hyperlink or by "http://localhost:8080/axis/services/<<ServiceName>>?wsdl"
I get the following error:
makeTypeElement() was told to create a type "{http://www.ibm.com/xmlns/stdwip/web-services/WS-ResourceProperties}>GetResourcePropertyResponse", with no containi
ng element.
It happens consistently and is highly reproduceable.
I would want to send my original WSDL. Pl. let me know the email id on which i can send the WSDL and its associated XSDs etc. as attachments.
thanks and regards.........

A side limitation is that my wsdl file immediately <imports> the XSD
file that does the work; the WSDL is only readable if various XSD files
are served from the same directory. That includes things like
WS-Addressing; I could refer to the public sites, but then my laptop
wont be able to compile it.
axis-wsdl2java handles it all nicely on the command line, <wsdlToDotnet>
takes the list of schemas after the WSDL and works, or will take a file:
url and pull in the schemas automatically. Mono's wsdl doesnt handle
listed schemas, and doesnt like file: urls either/
what I am planning to do is just publish the WSDL+schema elsewhere in
the web app, with the ?wsdl file not being the official source of it. I
guess I may have to write a special handler for the query that generates
a 302 response to point callers at the location...

Thanks for pointing it out. I'd also like to note that JAX-RPC 1.1 spec
doesn't require or guarantee roundtripping of WSDL->Java->WSDL, so if you
start your web service from a WSDL file, it will be better to publish your
WSDL with the static file, not dynamically auto-generated from Java in terms
of both accuracy and efficiency. (That's exactly what J2EE 1.4 web services
model, a.k.a. JSR-109 Enterprise Web Services does.) The problem still
remains that we don't have a standard way to reveal a WSDL on the Web with
JAX-RPC 1.1. <wsdlFile> tag is designed for the purpose so that you can do
it with Axis anyway though :-)

Ias

I am not going to comment on the merits of WS-RF based services, except
to observe that you may want to force your service to return your own
WSDL file, and not make its own copy from the Java. This is easy to do
by giving the path to the resource with the wsdl in your <service>
declaration:
<wsdlFile>/org/smartfrog/services/cddlm/xsd/deploymentAPI.wsdl</wsdlFile>
It ensures that people receive the WSDL you have written, including
documentation and fancy layout.

Here is an overview of the issue:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Key: AXIS-1284
Summary: Unable to access the WSDL for a hosted web service
Type: Bug
Status: Open
Priority: Major
Project: Axis
Components:
WSDL processing
Versions:
1.2 Beta
Assignee: Glen Daniels
Reporter: akshay kumar
Created: Mon, 5 Apr 2004 4:57 PM
Updated: Fri, 6 Aug 2004 3:03 AM
