Welcome Radu Cotescu as a new DeviceMap committer and PPMC member!

Hi,

The DeviceMap PPMC has elected Radu as a DeviceMap committer and PPMC
member - please join me in welcoming him to this new role!

Radu, an old Apache tradition says that you're welcome to introduce
yourself here as far as your work on DeviceMap is concerned, feel free
to do so.

User radu should now have write access to
http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/devicemap/

Please have a look at
http://www.apache.org/dev/new-committers-guide.html and more generally
http://www.apache.org/dev

Looking forward to working with you here!

-Bertrand

Hi Bertrand/Radu,

Congratulations, 2 new committers, guess that should help DeviceMap catch
up a bit to some of the high profile and resource ones like Cordova?[?]

I'm speaking on Standards for Java Embedded tomorrow. Not sure, if Device
Recognition fits in, but those people from Oracle who also decided to drop
WURFL support recently will be here, and I can speak to them, if
server-side Device Repositories make sense and there are requirements from
ME Embedded 8+

Great - note that we do have a website at
http://incubator.apache.org/devicemap/ (including a logo), but that's
only static pages + javascript.

We could have a BrowserMap demo of the client-side detection there,
but anything that requires server-side code will have to go to our VM
at http://devicemap-vm.apache.org/ - I have requested access for you
and Radu at INFRA-6190

For the dynamic website code I suggest that you create a folder under
http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/devicemap/trunk/

device map services

Posted by Reza <re...@yahoo.com>.
So I would like to start building a website for the project which will serve several purposes. The first thing I want to do is take our APIs and turn them into REST services which can be queried with user supplied UserAgents. I would like to have a service for all our APIs and DDRs, so example:

Java 1.0.0.2 with DDR 1.15
Java 1.0.0.2 with DDR 1.16
Java 1.0.0.3 with DDR 1.15
.NET 1.0.0.1 with DDR 1.16
BrowserMap 1.0 (clientside service?)
BrowserMap 1.1
etc...

Doing this will serve the following goals:

1) It will allow us to better test UserAgents against all our APIs, present and past, server side, client side, .NET, Java, etc. This will be browser based, so it will compliment our code based tests.
2) It will allow users and the public to better discover our services and see them in action.
3) It will be the first step in having users submit new devices, errors, and bugs back to us.

So the first step is to isolate our APIs, deploy them on a server, and wrap them with a JSON API. So if we can get a volunteer for each of the APIs, that would be great. I can get us going on the Java services if no one else can. I need someone to do .NET and browserMap (this will be browser side, correct?).

Also, can someone put together a homepage with a logo? Logo ideas? We can add a small blurb about project and also have a nice large input box with the visitors UserAgent pre filled which will kick off our various detection services.

Hello,

Thank you for allowing me to become a DeviceMap committer!

I've been working as a software engineer for one year and a half (if we exclude my 9 months of internship), first at Oracle and now at Adobe. Usually I don't like to work on client-side code, however BrowserMap - the module that Bertrand and I wanted to donate to DeviceMap - has proven to be a really nice experience.

Regarding DeviceMap, my work will mostly concentrate on maintaining the client-side BrowserMap module but I can also help with server-side Java code if there's a need for that.

Looking forward to have my commits enriching DeviceMap's codebase!

Cheers,
Radu
