ProviderEndpoint

I am going through the Hello World JBI Setup instructions
(http://servicemix.org/site/hello-world-se.html). I am at the "adding
custom functionality" step, and I've made all the needed changes to the
code, etc. When I try to run "mvn install" I get an error saying:

[ERROR] BUILD FAILURE

Is the ProviderEndpoint class in a different package? Thanks for any
suggestions!! :)

Also, make sure you use the 3.1-SNAPSHOT version.

I am having the same problem that Shanna is and am using the 3.1 Snapshot.
Any other suggestions on what to try?

This is the POM for the hello-world-su. I'm not sure what POM you're
looking for???

I just realized that I neglected to answer the question that got us
down this path:

>> Ok, I renamed the 3.1 directory to .old, but what
>> command do I run to let
>> Maven create a new one and download the correct
>> artifacts? thanks.

All you need to do is rebuild the hello-world-su using:

$ mvn clean install

This will tell Maven to remove the target directory from the
hello-world-su project and rebuild it. During the rebuild, Maven will
search the local maven repo for dependencies listed in the POM file
and notice that the servicemix-common directory for version
3.1-incubating-SNAPSHOT does not exist (because you renamed it to
3.1-incubating-SNAPSHOT.old correct?) and it will then create a new
directory named 3.1-incubating-SNAPSHOT and download a new copy of the
servicemix-common version 3.1-incubating-SNAPSHOT into that directory
and use it to build the hello-world-su project.

This exercise will usually clean up any discrepancies and is normally
not necessary. It's a brute force style of solution that is sometimes
the shortest path to fixing an issue like the one you're experiencing.

So this is the pom to rebuild the 3.1 snapshot of servicemix-common? I
thought this pom was just to build the hello-world project?

The POM is the pom.xml file that should be in the hello-world-su
directory. (One small side note here, I am still reworking the
tutorial and to make room for a JBI service engine and a JBI binding
component, I renamed this package/directory to be hello-world-se-su.)

Ok, I renamed the 3.1 directory to .old, but what command do I run to let
Maven create a new one and download the correct artifacts? thanks.

You should already have the maven-snapshot-repository in the pom.xml
from when it was generated by the servicemix-service-engine archetype.
This is where the 3.1-incubating-SNAPSHOT version of the
servicemix-common jar can be found that contains the endpoints
package:

http://people.apache.org/repo/m2-snapshot-repository/org/apache/servicemix/servicemix-common/3.1-incubating-SNAPSHOT/

Just now I grabbed this jar:

http://people.apache.org/repo/m2-snapshot-repository/org/apache/servicemix/servicemix-common/3.1-incubating-SNAPSHOT/servicemix-common-3.1-incubating-20070115.083011-64.jar

and peeked inside it to see if it contains the endpoints package and
the ProviderEndpoint class as noted above and below are my results:

$ jar tvf ~/Desktop/servicemix-common-3.1-incubating-20070115.083011-64.jar
| grep endpoints | awk {'print $8'}
org/apache/servicemix/common/endpoints/
org/apache/servicemix/common/endpoints/PollingEndpoint$PollScheduleIterator.class
org/apache/servicemix/common/endpoints/PollingEndpoint$1.class
org/apache/servicemix/common/endpoints/PollingEndpoint$PollSchedulerTask.class
org/apache/servicemix/common/endpoints/ProviderEndpoint.class
org/apache/servicemix/common/endpoints/SimpleEndpoint.class
org/apache/servicemix/common/endpoints/PollingEndpoint$PollSchedulerTask$1.class
org/apache/servicemix/common/endpoints/PollingEndpoint.class
org/apache/servicemix/common/endpoints/ConsumerEndpoint.class

Note that both the endpoints package and the ProviderEndpoint class
are both available.

You may just need to manually move aside the 3.1-incubating-SNAPSHOT
directory for servicemix-common and perform the build again to let
Maven download the appropriate version. This directory should be
located here:

<home-dir>/.m2/repository/org/apache/servicemix/servicemix-common/3.1-incubating-SNAPSHOT/

Rename this directory to 3.1-incubating-SNAPSHOT.old and let Maven
create a new one and download the correct artifacts. Do this and see
what results you receive.

There is no need to manually copy it as the Maven build will take of
that. As Guillaume noted, It is import to be sure you're using
ServiceMix 3.1-SNAPSHOT as noted in the Prerequisites section:

Thanks for the quick reply! I did import
org.apache.servicemix.common.endpoints.ProviderEndpoint into the myEndpoint
class.
Do i need to copy the service-common jar somewhere into the hello-world
project? The hello-world-smx folder is located under my
$servicemix_home\examples dir.

Shanna, this is why the following statement exists in that section:

By the way, making this change will require the import of the full
class (org.apache.servicemix.common.endpoints.ProviderEndpoint). This
class can be found in the servicemix-common project.
