Whirr and EC2 EBS

Hi,

I have been trying to run a HBase Cluster on Amazon EC2 with Apache Whirr [not with Python scripts].
When I setup everything and invoke launch-cluster, it tries to start the Cluster by launching the machines but nothing happens after a bit of time.
It fails with the message, "Dying because - java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out".

I googled to check if anyone had faced any such issue. Came across the following links:
https://groups.google.com/a/cloudera.org/group/cdh-user/browse_thread/thread/b6c1bf82c5eee53f
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/WHIRR-290
http://markmail.org/thread/ubpzrsyzjz5khtuj

In the first link above, Tom White said "Whirr doesn't currently support EBS" [on 29th April, 2011].
I can see the corresponding JIRA issue is not resolved.

>From these links, I understand that Whirr does not support EBS as of yet.
Please let me know if I am correct here.

Regards,
Prashanth.

What version of Whirr are you using?

Hi Prashanth,

I think #209 is saying that Whirr can not stop and then start a instance
while preserving the same EBS volume attachment. It is not saying that
Whirr can not raise instances that are using EBS.

Does it help?

Sean
