Interesting. What xml parser and xslt processor are you using?
a simple compile takes 17 secs and and a complete rebuild from
scratch takes 2 min 25 secs on a win2000, pii 400, 256 mb ram.
A question relating to that: even if nothing is changed 196 source
files are recompiled. these are probably the property files whose
source files are now somewhat hidden below codegen in
xml-fop/build/src/codegen/build/src/org/apache/fop/fo/properties
instead of just below src/org as in
xml-fop/build/src/org/apache/fop/fo/properties
Is there some reason for this special place for the properties
sources? Can we reintegrate them into the source tree?

Hello Daniel,
the people from jcatalog who contributed the awt stuff didn't react
to the error reports, so feel free to change it as you think fit to
make it work.

Tracked the fault down to some dodgey file sharing using SCO-Win2000.
I can mod one file and rebuild that fop.jar in 2 seconds ... ahh that's
better :)
Anyone got any thoughts on the PrintCommandLine? I'm not too sure how
much I can go ahead and edit.

The hyphenation took a really long time for me also.

Hi, Karen
It never irked me enough to cause me to look at the cause (I have a fast
machine), but I get exactly what Fotis gets - 196 (or 197) source files
recompiled every time, no matter what.
Actually, speaking of speed, it's not the compile, it's whatever is being
done with the hyphenation files the first time around. When those are
processed the total build time for me is around 7 or 8 minutes. This is
evidently what Daniel Bradby is also experiencing. ???

Arved

Hi Fotis,
I can't think what those property files are doing there! In my private
build that isn't happening. I have seen something like that in the past
when the substitution in the build file wasn't happening correctly. Have
you checked your src/codegen to make sure they aren't already there and
just being copied to build?
Cheers,
Karen

That's a bug in the xalan 2 backcompat redirect extension.
http://nagoya.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=608
It redirects better than the old one, so it's not too serious of a bug, it
just doesn't work exactly the same as the old one.
I don't know if it's going to be fixed or not, but if we're going to move
completely to Xalan-J 2, then it's a non-issue.
