Summary: mod_proxy connection pool is not available actually
Product: Apache httpd-2
Version: 2.2.0
Platform: Other
URL: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/mod_proxy.html
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: Documentation
AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
ReportedBy: yneko@yamamaya.com
httpd-2.2.0 mod_proxy does not reuse connection pool. So, connection pool does
not be used at all actually, it's only a waste of the system resource. The
description related to mod_proxy's connection pool should be deleted from the
document.
proxy_util.c line1851-1861
/*
* TODO: Check if the connection can be reused
*/
if (conn->connection) {
if (conn->sock) {
apr_socket_close(conn->sock);
conn->sock = NULL;
}
apr_pool_cleanup_kill(conn->connection->pool, conn, connection_cleanup);
conn->connection = NULL;
}

No, the ability is there in the next 2.2.x release. So there is no reason to
adjust the documentation.

------- Additional Comments From yneko@yamamaya.com 2006-04-11 01:20 -------
What I mention is a bug of mod_proxy and the document. Since the code related
to reusing of connection pool is not implemented, that is the ability to use
pooled connections to a backend server is unavailable actually, the description
should be deleted; "As of Apache 2.1, the ability to use pooled connections to
a backend server is available..."
