   From me, later in the same thread:

   It wasn't debated further, because that wasn't the point of the thread, but we have plans for many breaking changes in accepted and pending blueprints - those need a new major API version unless we're pushing them back until after ATCv6.1/7.0. Well, actually they'll still need a new major API version, but we don't need to do that until we do them. 
   How we want to handle APIv5 is up in the air as far as when it should be released as stable, but we can't start working on these new features without it.
