http://issues.apache.org/SpamAssassin/show_bug.cgi?id=5579
Summary: Installation should trigger update to run
Product: Spamassassin
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P5
Component: Packaging: RPM
AssignedTo: dev@spamassassin.apache.org
ReportedBy: marc@perkel.com
I would like to suggest that as part of the initial install of SA that at the
end it automatically does an update so that you actually are installing the
latest and greatest. That way if there were improvements since the official
release those improvement are installed as well.

I think this is a good idea. But we must take into account that there may not
be an internet connection configured at package install time (e.g. when
installing from cd). Another thing would be mass-installations from images: you
want to update at first usage and not at image creation time.
So I propose to create a "firstrun" script which is run by the init script if
some conditions are met (e.g. no update installed or some file touched).

Personally, I would oppose doing it automatically.
That said, I do think the install should end with some text recommending running
sa-update.
