As of METAMODEL-212 we've added a new REST module for ElasticSearch. But this module still depends on elasticsearch.jar to build some of the JSON documents that are sent for searching etc.

It would be much better if we can free ourselves completely from the JAR file because it means that we are also dependent on a particular version of ElasticSearch. We would rather want to be version-agnostic so that the REST client will fire ES 1.x-style requests when the server is 1.x-based and fire ES 2.x-style requests when the server is 2.x-based.
