Building apr-util with ldap on AIX

Hello,

I am having trouble building apr-util with ldap on AIX. I have successfully
build apr and openssl with the following options:
apr
CC="gcc" ./configure -C --prefix=/usr/local/apr
openssl
CC="gcc" ./configure -C --enable-slapd --enable-hdb=no --enable-bdb=no
--prefix=/usr/local/openldap

I have tried building apr-util multiple times with different options. Here
what I think is close to right:
CPPFLAGS="-I/usr/local/openssl" LDFLAGS="-L/usr/local/openssl" CC="gcc"
./configure -C --prefix=/usr/local/apr-util \
--with-apr=/usr/local/apr --enable-ldap --with-ldap

Here is the output from the apr-util configure:
checking for ldap support...
checking for ldap_init in -lldap50... no
checking for ldap_init in -lldapssl41... no
checking for ldap_init in -lldapssl40... no
checking for ldap_init in -lldapssl30... no
checking for ldap_init in -lldapssl20... no
checking for ldap_init in -lldapsdk... no
checking for ldap_init in -lldapsdk... no
checking for ldap_init in -lldap... no
checking for ldap_init in -lldap... no
checking for ldap_init in -lldap... no
checking for ldap_init in -lldap... no
configure: error: could not find an LDAP library
Is there a file ldap_init that should exist in /usr/local/openssl?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Robert

Yes, you need to decide against which ldap library you want to build. If
not against OpenLDAP but instead against an IBM provided one, last time
I was building on AIX 6.1 (about 1 year ago) I was using something like

   --with-ldap-include=/opt/IBM/ldap/V6.1/include
   --with-ldap-lib=/opt/IBM/ldap/V6.1/lib
   --with-ldap=ibmldapn

Rainer

Rainer's tip worked using:

CC="gcc" ./configure -C --prefix=/usr/local/apr-util
--with-apr=/usr/local/apr --with-ldap-include=/opt/IBM/ldap/V6.1/include
--with-ldap-lib=/opt/IBM/ldap/V6.1/lib --with-ldap=ibmldapn
Thank you very much and sorry for the formatting

You need to use some LDAP client library; whichever you use should be
able to talk to Tivoli DS.

OpenLDAP is the client library that most people use with httpd/apr-util.

If you're subscribed to the list, see Rainer's hint (or check the archives).

Yes, you're correct, it should be openldap

I tried running configure with --with-ldap=/usr/local/openldap and still
couldn't get apr-util to compile
checking for ldap support...
checking for ldap_init in -l/usr/local/openldap... no
checking for ldap_init in -l/usr/local/openldap... no
checking for ldap_init in -l/usr/local/openldap... no
checking for ldap_init in -l/usr/local/openldap... no
configure: error: could not find an LDAP library
So I guess there's an issue with my openldap build?

The part that I don't understand is why do I need openldap if I'm trying to
build apache to be able to authenticate to a Tivoli Directory Service. In
the end, I'm trying to get TDS ldap to work with apache and subversion. Is
there way to configure apr-util to use TDS or AIX ldap filesets?

Thanks,
Robert

that's really openldap, right?

don't you need "--with-ldap=/usr/local/openldap" ?

no, it is a function that should be found in libldap.so or one of
those alternative library names like libldapssl41.so
