Hi Socheat,

Most of the open source projects, including Wicket, let developers in
based on merits. We would consider people who have been active on the
list for a long time, provided patches to problems, etc. We'd also
have to feel he/ she fits our team and knows at much about Wicket as
we do or has the potential for that. We generally would contact
prospect members ourselves (don't call us, we'll call you), though we
don't mind receiving a hint that you're interested.

That's a long way to say "no thanks". The good news is though, that
you can contribute without having to be an official member of the
team. You can send in patches for JIRA issues, help on the mailing
list and participate in discussions. And/ or create spin-off projects
in wicket-stuff or someone else. Blog about it and get the word out.
And just use Wicket :-)

Regards,

Eelco

Dear esteemed friend Socheat,

I write to you to tell you that I am standing in for my dear friends and
esteemed Java Developers MARTIJN DASHORT and EELCO HILLENIUS, who are
both currently occupied with writing a book, and thus to all intents and
purposes are not available.

They have told me that to secure your induction into the WICKET
DEVELOPMENT TEAM I need you to send by return no less than HALF A WICKET
BOOK. This HALF A WICKET BOOK is to be deposited in a large brown paper
envelope and sent by courier to the address: THE MEN WHO NEED HALF A
WICKET BOOK, TOP FLOOR, 1 WICKET TOWERS, ISLE OF WICKET.

Upon receipt of the HALF A WICKET BOOK, we will deposit the sum of ONE
MILLION SSH KEYS into an account of your choosing, somewhere on an
Apache server near you.

YOURS RESPECTFULLY and WITH THANKS,

ALASTAIR MAW (Wicket Developer)

P.S. Sure you can join the team. But only if you first get the respect
of the community. Send us some patches, fix a few issues, prove you're
not going to make a mess of things first. ;-)
