[users@httpd] Apache Not Serving Images
Hello all. I am suddenly having some problems with Apache serving the logo on the main page of a webmail server. It always worked fine and suddenly it is not showing the image now. I hadn't changed anything on the server, but I have since tried to upgrade to 2.0.48 but still no luck.
The server is Windows 2000 Pro. Running Squirrelmail which uses PHP4. I've never seen anything like this before and looked all over the web and could not find any info.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks much.

The return code 206 means "Partial Content". Why you would get such a
response when requesting it, I don't know. The question is why Apache gets a
request for just part of the content.

Please check this with another browser and/or on a different computer, it
sounds very much like a client issue. Could you give us a link, so we could
see for ourselves?

I actually have done that and the image is not served. In checking the
error log, there is no entry.
The access log will show something like;
[19/Jan/2004:08:14:28 -0500] "GET /images/logo.gif HTTP/1.1" 206 12595
which I think looks ok, although I am no Apache expert.
I've also tried just making a generic index.html page and put it in the
document root. I have Apache set to look for index.html first and then
index.php.
When doing this, the HTML page is not served to the client, I just see an
empty page. But if I just double click on the page from Windows explorer,
it will display without any problems.

You need to do some more specific investigation and explain what is going
on. "Stopped working" or "doesn't work" aren't good problem descriptions.
Take a file that isn't displayed properly, eg. the banner you first talked
about, and try to request it directly. Does it work? If so, Apache is
probably not at fault. If not, look at Apache's error log to see why the
file wasn't served.

Re: [users@httpd] Apache Not Serving Images

I've done a bit more testing and so on today and it seems like my
Squirrelspell has also stopped working. I went back and redid the setup for
it and I get a script error when invoking the spell checker. On looking at
the error, it looks like it is because the instance of Squirrelspell did not
start. Further investigation seems to show that this instance is created
via a Java script sent to the client browser. I am thinking that Apache is
not serving that up properly as well, along with the images. I also cannot
get a normal HTML page to serve from the web root, only PHP.
I've uninstalled/reinstalled Apache a few times and even tried to revert to
.45 thinking that might help, but no luck. I was able to see images (JPG)
that were attached to an email sent to me.
Anyone have any similar experiences or thoughts?
Thanks again,
Brian

I do have Norton on there, but the Ad blocker was off. I disabled Norton
and still had the same problem.
Thanks for the suggestion though.

Do you happen to be running norton personal firewall on the machine that the
image isn't displaying on, turns out that their ad blocker has a rule that
looks for "banner" in a url and blocks it. Telnet to port 80 and see if you
can grab the image that way.
