[jira] Created: (INFRA-471) Convert jakarta-watchdog and jakarta-watchdog-4.0 to Subversion

Convert jakarta-watchdog and jakarta-watchdog-4.0 to Subversion
---------------------------------------------------------------

         Key: INFRA-471
         URL: http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-471
     Project: Infrastructure
        Type: Task
  Components: Subversion
 Environment: N/A
    Reporter: Mark Thomas

The Tomcat project has decided to move to Subversion.

Since Tomcat spans a number of CVS repositories, we wish to migrate in
a phased manner, starting with the Watchdog repositories.

We need to export the following CVS repositories:
- jakarta-watchdog
- jakarta-watchdog-4.0

Ideally, the resulting structure in SVN should be:

SVN Directory CVS Module(s) CVS Branch/Tag
-------------------- -------------------- --------------
/tomcat/
  /watchdog/
    /branches/
      /tc4.1.x/ j-watchdog-4.0 HEAD

      /other/ j-watchdog, -4.0 All other branches
    /tags/
      /tc4.1.x/ j-watchdog-4.0 All 4.1.x tags
      /other/ j-watchdog, -4.0 All other tags

We appreciate that this is non-standard and are happy to move
directories around ourselves after a standard migration to:

SVN Directory CVS Module(s) CVS Branch/Tag
-------------------- -------------------- --------------
/tomcat/
  /watchdog/
    /watchdog/
      /trunk/ j-watchdog HEAD
      /tags/ j-watchdog All tags
      /branches/ j-watchdog All branches
    /watchdog-4.0/
      /trunk/ j-watchdog-4.0 HEAD
      /tags/ j-watchdog-4.0 All tags
      /branches/ j-watchdog-4.0 All branches

Finally, commit access should be granted to /tomcat/watchdog/ to the
union of:
- committers with access to watchdog
- committers with access to watchdog-4.0
- members of the new Tomcat PMC

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Done.

https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/tomcat/watchdog/

I've hardwired the commits to goto tomcat-dev@jakarta.apache.org and put in a request for a watchdog-commits@tomcat.apache.org address to be made, figure it makes sense to move over to the new domain - http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-487.

Mark Thomas commented on INFRA-471:
-----------------------------------

Thanks for such a rapid response.

The repositories look fine. I was initially thrown by some file size differences but I have got to the bottom of this now.

After thinking about the unanswered questions, I have had a bit of a re-think (see below) for the final layout. I will aim to get an appropriate list of move commands together once I have had some sleep ;)

/tomcat/
  /watchdog/
/trunk/ Empty - I will add a readme that describes how this works for tc5.x
    /branches/
      /tc4.1.x/ j-w-4 head
      /tc3.3.x/ j-w head
      /other/
        /3.x/ j-w branches
        /4.x/ j-w-4 branches
    /tags/
      /other/
        /3.x/ j-w tags
        /4.x/ j-w-4 tags

The commit alias needs to point to tomcat-dev@jakarta.apache.org so the watchdog commits continue to end up on the tomcat-dev list.

Thanks again.

Please can you move costin & yoavs to the tomcat-pmc group as they are part of the pmc as well.

[jira] Updated: (INFRA-471) Convert jakarta-watchdog and jakarta-watchdog-4.0 to Subversion

Mark Thomas updated INFRA-471:
------------------------------

    Attachment: WatchdogMigrationCommands.txt

I have attached the required svn commands to restructure watchdog after migration. I have tested the first couple to make sure I have the syntax right but have not tested all of them on the test repo. The file has windows line endings.

[jira] Commented: (INFRA-471) Convert jakarta-watchdog and jakarta-watchdog-4.0 to Subversion

Posted by "Henri Yandell (JIRA)" <ji...@apache.org>.

Henri Yandell commented on INFRA-471:
-------------------------------------

I've added that list as @tomcat-pmc.

Is the old CVS list of watchdog committers needed at all?

"duncan,jon,costin,rubys,akv,jhunter,preston,shemnon,shachor,gonzo,mode,arun,craigmcc,vanitha,rameshm,horwat,pierred,larryi,santosh,marcsaeg,rlubke,morgand,danny,yoavs"

Currently I have them as an @tomcat-watchdog, but given Watchdogs status I could see how they might be deletable now.

Henri Yandell commented on INFRA-471:
-------------------------------------

Basic migration into test repository done.

1) If you'd like to come up with a bunch of svn move's while in the test repository, I can incorporate them into the migration. I started to do so, but there are some unanswered questions to deal with:
*) Where does watchdog trunk go?
*) Do you want to be able to tell the two sets of branches and two sets of tags apart?
  *) I don't see any watchdog 4.1 tags.

2) I assume we should go ahead and setup new watchdog-commits@tomcat.apache.org aliases that point to watchdog-dev@jakarta.apache.org?

[jira] Commented: (INFRA-471) Convert jakarta-watchdog and jakarta-watchdog-4.0 to Subversion

Posted by "Henri Yandell (JIRA)" <ji...@apache.org>.

Henri Yandell commented on INFRA-471:
-------------------------------------

Oops. Test available at:

https://svn.apache.org/repos/test/tomcat/watchdog/ and watchdog-4.0/

svn co https://svn.apache.org/repos/test/tomcat/watchdog/trunk jakarta-watchdog etc etc.

Authentication stuff isn't handled until we do the real thing, same for email notifications and being able to use viewcvs.

> The Tomcat project has decided to move to Subversion.
> Since Tomcat spans a number of CVS repositories, we wish to migrate in
> a phased manner, starting with the Watchdog repositories.
> We need to export the following CVS repositories:
> - jakarta-watchdog
> - jakarta-watchdog-4.0
> Ideally, the resulting structure in SVN should be:
> SVN Directory CVS Module(s) CVS Branch/Tag
> -------------------- -------------------- --------------
> /tomcat/
> /watchdog/
> /branches/
> /tc4.1.x/ j-watchdog-4.0 HEAD
> /other/ j-watchdog, -4.0 All other branches
> /tags/
> /tc4.1.x/ j-watchdog-4.0 All 4.1.x tags
> /other/ j-watchdog, -4.0 All other tags
> We appreciate that this is non-standard and are happy to move
> directories around ourselves after a standard migration to:
> SVN Directory CVS Module(s) CVS Branch/Tag
> -------------------- -------------------- --------------
> /tomcat/
> /watchdog/
> /watchdog/
> /trunk/ j-watchdog HEAD
> /tags/ j-watchdog All tags
> /branches/ j-watchdog All branches
> /watchdog-4.0/
> /trunk/ j-watchdog-4.0 HEAD
> /tags/ j-watchdog-4.0 All tags
