Suggesting a Reference Implementation (Re: document() in cocoon again)

I thought I might mention that I've
read many times before in texts that
no code optimisations should be made
until the program is functional.

It might be the best approach for Cocoon
2 to create a reference implementation
with no optimisations before building
a production implementation. (Or at
least make the two run independently
in parallel) It would speed up
development and experimentation of
new ideas while providing stability.

The availability of a reference
implementation would allow users who
need to use more advanced features to
not get hit by problems created by
optimisations.

The reference implementation also
represents the direction that the
production implementation should
be aiming for.

Besides: separation of research
and production is like separation
of logic, content and style.

Manageability and specialisation
becomes remain the key issues.
