Server failed to start: java.rmi.RemoteException: Cannot start. Unable to get local host IP address.

Hi,

When I try to launch Jmeter as a server (jmeter -s) on my linux box (running
Red Hat) I get the following error message:

Server failed to start: java.rmi.RemoteException: Cannot start. Unable to
get local host IP address.

Anyone come across this before?

Thanks,

Drew

Thanks Sebb,

Turns out that the name of the computer had been changed on the network but
/etc/hosts hadn't been updated. I was referring to the computer by IP
address so I didn't notice. All working fine now.

Thanks,

Drew

Localhost is usually the loopback address.

You need the external name of the host to be defined as a non-local address.

Can you ping your host from another system? What hostname do you use?
Is that same hostname defined in its /etc/hosts database with the same
IP address?

Hi Sebb,

I edited my post just after I sent it, apparently nabble doesn't send edits
to the mailing list. Localhost is in my /etc/hosts and I can ping it. Any
other ideas?

Thanks,

Drew

Most likely the /etc/hosts file does not have an entry for the host name.
