Mid characterrun characterrun.

Is it possible to create a new CharacterRun mid-character run (from a HWPFDocument), from a DocumentPosition, by using:

/*
Range.replaceText(oldText,"previous writing" + "\u0001" + "latter writing");
Range.replaceText(oldText,"previous writing" + "\r" + "latter writing");
*/
Do either of these cause HWPFDocument to recompute where all it's CharacterRuns fall?  Is it possible to do this, by simply putting in some key text items like those suggested?
