When running the 'perl Makefile.PL' command to begin the unpacking procedure 
of the contents of the tarball, I notice a number of errors in the resultant 
Makefile. (Make notices too).

There are lines with single quotes missing from the ends of the lines, other 
lines with what appears to be only stray text on them, lines which appear 
truncated, and so forth.

System is RedHat 9. Perl is what RedHat supplies and is 5.8.0.

A complaint is also registered that the Makefile.PL could not find pod2man, 
yet it's in the path (and in /usr/bin). Whether this is the same issue or not 
is unclear.
